What’s lurking in the White Umfolozi?

The unsanitary disposal of pig sewage in flowing directly into the White Umfolozi River.

FOLLOWING some rather disturbing reports from various landowners in the Stilwater region regarding the unsanitary disposal of pig sewage directly into the White Umfolozi river, tests have been carried out by AfriForum and the results are enough to make your skin crawl.

The tests, which were carried out last Tuesday by AfriForum’s Andrè van der Walt, revealed the following: Phosphates – 40 parts per ml, this level should not be higher than 15.33; E.coli – 40+ colonies, this level should be 0; Faecal coliforms – 80+ colonies, this should also be 0.

“This is a real threat to animals drinking that water,” states Andrè van der Walt. “Even people are drinking it!”
