The Newcastle Clivia Club hosted its annual Clivia Show on September 16.
The show took place at Drakensberg Primary School.
Since the Newcastle Clivia Group’s establishment in 2000, this year marked the first time it hosted the KwaZulu-Natal Clivia Show with entries from KZN.
“We received a good response, as we had 108 plants entered into the show,” confirmed Alfred Everson, chairperson of the Newcastle Clivia Club.
The clivias on show were judged by a panel of judges, and the winners were then rewarded for the beauty of their plants.
Francois van Rooyen won first place for his clivia, securing himself R2 500 in prize money. Piet van Wyk and Riana van Wyk placed in second and third respectively.
While the day was focused on clivias, Newcastillians also enjoyed shopping from a variety of stalls, as well as purchasing their own clivia plants to take home.
