250 young people came together with the express purpose of promoting social cohesion, nation building and national identity, using sport and recreation.
NATIONAL pride, social cohesion, responsible citizenship and team work were the key focus points at a recent National Youth Camp in Louwsburg, spearheaded by the KZN Department of Sport and Recreation.
250 young people from different parts of the province came together from December 1 to December 8 as the department held its annual youth camp programme with the express purpose of promoting social cohesion, nation building and national identity, using sport and recreation as a catalyst to address challenges faced by youth through constructive engagement and to empower young people towards a sustainable programme in the elimination of poverty and unemployment.
The youth camp also aims to promote a healthy lifestyle and to encourage young people to participate in sport and recreation through the formulation of clubs at local and community levels, targeting Grade 9 to Grade 11 pupils, who are selected from all KZN districts by means of an Olympiad test.
