Ladysmith Angling Club crowned VME League Champions

The next fixture of the APL is the Transnat Knock Out Semi Final which will be held on February 11 at Richgate Park.

Ladysmith Angling Club took a step closer towards being crowned the VME League Champions when they convincingly won League 5 at Richgate Park on January 14, scoring 60 points, followed by Breakwaters (35 pts); Stillwaters (24 pts); Challengers (21 pts); Dannhauser (7 pts) and Glencoe (4 pts). Dan Govinder of Ladysmith was crowned “angler of the day” receiving the orange cap, an outright trophy and R200 sponsored by Challengers AC. Monty Slabbert of Breakwaters is the overall leader of APL on 43 pts; followed by Kaveer Singh (BAC) with 35 pts and Albert Van Niekerk (BAC) with 31 pts.
The VME League Table is headed Ladysmith on 58 pts; Breakwaters (52 pts); Challengers (32 pts); Stillwaters (31 pts); Dannhauser (27 pts) and Glencoe (10 pts).
The title holders of the APL thus far: Yusuf Cassim of Dannhauser Angling Club (Heaviest Scaled Fish Carp of 3,870kg); Valentino Murugan of Ladysmith AC (Heaviest Non Scaled Fish – Barbel of 11,490kg); Abhay Jawair of Stillwaters AC (Junior Angler of the Year – 6 pts); Veruschka Boodhoo of Stillwaters AC (Lady Angler of the Year – 6 pts), Dan Govinder of Ladysmith AC (Senior Angler of the Year – 12 pts) and Monty Slabbert of Breakwaters AC (Angler of the Year – 43 pts).
The top five anglers for Breakwaters and Stillwaters AC for League 5 were Abhay Jawair (5 pts) followed by Yudveer Naransamy (5 pts); Vicky Dass (4 pts); Ahmed Masthan (4 pts) and Vishal Jawair (4 pts).
The next fixture of the APL is the Transnat Knock Out Semi Final which will be held on February 11 at Richgate Park. Ladysmith will take on Challengers while Breakwaters will be up against Dannhauser AC, with the winners progressing to the finals.
The current title holders for Breakwaters/Stillwaters are: Monty Slabbert (Heaviest Scaled Fish – carp of 3,320kg; Most Fish Caught; Highest Pointer Scorer; Champion of Champion; League Champion and Angler of the Year); Sikander Amod (heaviest non scaled fish – barbel of 2,975kg); Anil Boodhoo (Heaviest Scaly – 530g)); Reshanath Somaru (Heaviest Eel – 760g); Kaveer Singh (Knock Out Champion and Highest Point Scorer); Veruschka Boodhoo (Lady Angler of Year); Talia Boodhoo and Abhay Jawair (Junior Angler of the Year tied on 6 pts); Ikbal Asraff (Senior Angler of the Year). The internal singles and doubles knock-out competitions have reached an advanced stage as well with the winners from Stillwaters taking on the winners of Breakwaters in the finals.
The second registration period is currently open for new members who wish to join the APL for the remainder of the season.
