Drama-filled Two Oceans race
Runners from the Biggarsberg Athletics Club again put in sterling performances at the Two Oceans Marathon in Cape Town.
There was lots of drama at this year’s Two Oceans Marathon in Cape Town in which runners from the Biggarsberg Athletics Club again put in sterling performances.
The first sign of things to come was the decision to import water for the almost 30 000 runners who entered the ‘most beautiful race in the world’ because of the crippling drought ravaging Cape Town.
Then there were four gentlemen who travelled by bus to Cape Town – they been barely on the road for two hours when came across ‘troubles’and found themselves stuck in the bus for hours.
They finally reached Cape Town with swollen feet but with the spirit to do their best in the race.
Marina Christoforou became another statistic as she just arrived in Cape Town when her vehicle was broken into and they stole her running gear as well as her ASA running licence. That did not get her down and she finished the 21km with a proud medal to prove it
And then while running the Ultra Marathon, at round the 43km mark , Siya Ngobese was hit by a police vehicle on the road. The vehicle hit him on his right side on the hip. Medics treated him for almost an hour. His wife, Sam, was running with him and determined to show what Team Ngobese is made of, they continued running the race with nurse, Sam, spraying Siya the whole time to ease his pain.. Unfortunately due to the hour delay, they finished the race after the 7 hour cut off
BBAC is proud of all their runners that travelled so far to participate and keep Biggarsberg’s name high!
