Two in Court following Nquthu horror shootings

Two men, aged 35 and 42, have appeared in the Nqutu Magistrates Court on charges of murder and attempted murder. The charges relate to a triple murder on August 4 when three men travelling in a vehicle were stopped and gunned down.

Their bodies were found near the road at Ntabezibomvu area in Nquthu. It is alleged that their vehicle was taken away by the armed men who drove to the Mabaso homestead where they allegedly shot another man and an elderly woman. Both victims were seriously injured and taken to hospital for treatment. Later, a young man identified as Philani Mabaso (21) died at hospital. A 69-year-old woman is still in hospital receiving treatment.

The first three deceased were identified as Nhlakanipho Mabaso (23), Nkomo Zulu (29) and Simphiwe Dlamini (30).

The two men arrested  were remanded in custody until Friday, 24 August 2018 for bail application. The first suspect was arrested on Tuesday,  August 21, at Nquthu and the second suspect handed himself over to the police yesterday morning.
