Spring arrives with the park parties residents grumble about
Residents in the vicinity of the park say 'this is their worst nightmare'

While the first day of Spring was welcomed by most in the area, for those living adajcent to Coronation Park in the Berea area, it was back to their worst nightmares – parties in the park.
Residents called the Courier late on Saturday evening and the control room (034 21 222 222) to lodge a noise disturbance and drinking in public complain.
However, they said no one answered the control room number which is supposed to be a 24-hour line to assist the community. The SAPS already told residents that they can only react to such noise complaints after midnight. Residents disputed said saying that the municipal by-laws and signs put up in the park forbade such gatherings which include noise and drinking alcohol in public places.

One resident said when they could no longer take the noise they again persuaded a traffic officer to take steps – which he did and cleared away the group of partygoers – said to number about 35 – shortly after 8pm.
Residents said they are to continue steps to take a class action against the authorities who say do not implement their own laws.
This morning, Sunday, saw the left overs of the party – green bottles, other litter and several condoms.
