Man succumbs to horrific injuries after being hit by a truck

Motorists have appealed to authorities to keep the trucks out of the CBD

A pedestrian who was hit by a truck while walking on the pavement died two hours later in hospital. The man, whose name is yet to be released, was hit by a truck on Saturday morning on the corner of Browning and Victoria Street.

Witnesses said the truck appeared to go out of control while travelling down Victoria Street and turning up Browning Street. Motorist, Preyen Murugan, who was travelling down Victoria Street with his baby and a friend’s daughter, said the truck swung wildly and nearly hit his car.

“I stopped and saw that the pedestrian had been hit. The truck drive carried on driving up Browning Street. Luckily, it is a steep uphill and the truck had slowed considerably. I was able to run after the truck and ask him to stop. He appeared oblivious to the fact that this poor guy was lying on the road with his stomach cut open.”

Police and paramedics were on the scene and treated the man. He was taken to hospital but later died.
