Golfers battle in gusty coastal wind

Eighteen golfers from Dundee C.C. travelled down to Margate last Wednesday to compete in the annual KZN Men’s Inter-Club tournament which was held from Friday through to Sunday.
The players enjoyed a practice round on the immaculately conditioned San Lameer course on Thursday in wonderful weather conditions which saw Cyril Mkhwanazi scoring 37 individual points to win the team competition with Willie Maritz finishing in second place on 34 points followed by Barry Sandy and Lionel Shawe, who both scored 31 points.
Sadly, the weather changed quite dramatically on Friday, the first round of the tournament, and a gusty southwesterly wind picked up and the players battled to overcome the wind to record good scores with the exception of Richard Catlett who carded 37 points at Southbroom G.C.
There was further disappointment for the players on Saturday, as not only did the southwesterly pick up even more, but the heavens opened and the players were drenched during the round.
Needless to say, the scores recorded by the players on Saturday were worse than those on the first day and unfortunately, none of the six Dundee teams were able to qualify for the final round on Sunday.
Besides the poor weather conditions for golf, all the players enjoyed the team spirit amongst the guys and had a good team building weekend and the players would once again like to thank both Henk Booysen and Richard Catlett for their generous sponsorship and contribution in making the annual trip to the south coast an enjoyable one.
An important notice to all Dundee C.C. golf members, your annual subscriptions were due by 30 September 2018, those members who fail to pay their subs by Tuesday, October 30, 2018, will be taken off the Handicap Network System and will no longer have an official handicap.
This coming Saturday, October 27, the club competition will be a better ball stableford format.
