Sylvia shows true grit in bowls open singles
The Annual General Meeting of Dundee Sports Club (Bowls) will be held on Wednesday, October 24, at 6pm at the Club.
This past weekend Dundee Bowling Club played host to 51 players from around the zone who competed in the KZNCB Northern Zone Open Singles Tournament.
Once again conditions were gloomy but that did not affect the excellent quality of bowls played. On Sunday afternoon it came down to the last four.
In the Ladies section, it was Samantha Shaw from Newcastle and Dundee Club President, Sylvia Malan in the final and in the Men’s section it was Stephen Shaw from Newcastle and Phillip Scheepers from Vryheid.
Both the finals were incredibly intense with Phillip Scheepers edging Stephen Shaw 21-12 to take the honours of KZNCB Northern Zone Men’s Open Singles Winner.
In the ladies final, Sylvia showed her grit and determination, coming back from being 13-19 down to pick up eight shots in the last three ends to beat Samantha with a winning score of 21-19 and in so doing earned herself the title of KZNCB Northern Zone Ladies Open Singles Winner.
It was incredible bowls to watch! Congratulations to the winners but especially to Sylvia who has done her Club incredibly proud.
ATKV Business League
The fifth and sixth games of the ATKV Business League were played this past Thursday evening. Once again the weather gods were not very kind with the playing conditions on the chilly side.
There was some moving and shaking as far as the leaderboard was concerned however things are still quite tight at the top with the top four teams on the same amount of points with only shot difference determining their spots. The leaderboard as follows: Paul Coetzer Brokers 10 +37; Cherrybums 10 +27; Queen B’s 10 +24; Buffalo Coal Calcine 10 +17.
This coming Thursday evening will be the last round of the ATKV Business League. Only one game will be played with Prize-giving and a wine auction to follow.
Don’t forget that the ATKV will be collecting non-perishable items for the NCVV Service Centre in Glencoe as well as pet food for the Dundee SPCA so please bring along a non-perishable food item or pet food which will be distributed to the beneficiaries.

Kings Day Newcastle
A number of the Club’s members will travel to Newcastle this coming Saturday to compete in the Kings Sponsored Day.
AGM
The Annual General Meeting of Dundee Sports Club (Bowls) will be held on Wednesday, October 24, at 6pm at the Club. Motions for discussion must be submitted in writing and handed to Sylvia Malan, Club President, at least seven days prior to the meeting.
