
The Thuma Mina team – led by uThukela District Mayor Siphiwe Mazibuko, Alfred Duma Deputy Mayor Cllr T Hadebe and other officials – visited the community (farm dwellers) of Drongvaal recently to attend to their issues.
These issues revolve around electrification of households, water supply, sanitation, access roads and the building of a school. Alfred Duma Deputy Mayor Cllr Hadebe mentioned that they are aware that this area has no electricity. She told them that Eskom has conducted a feasibility study and that Drongvaal has been budgeted for in the next financial year.

She then explained that a municipal programme is in place to do road construction.
The municipality committed itself to attend to the issue of access roads and organise a meeting with Eskom.
District Mayor Mazibuko told the audience that in order to get sanitation facilities up and running, people have to put forward a request. He said that Operation Sukuma Sakhe assists to speed up the process in some cases.
On the issue of water, the mayor mentioned different types of water supply the district utilises, ie springs, piped water, production boreholes and water tanker distribution to mention but a few.
The mayor promised to send a technician to assess the situation in the area with regards to water supply. In the meantime, water tankers will be dispatched.
