Reading aloud to encourage a love of books

The children from Boschkloof welcomed the library services with huge smiles and were eager to read the books that were available.

Reading was on the time table when the Endumeni Library Services combined with the Department of Arts and Culture library services visited Boschkloof Combined School to mark World Read Aloud Day on February 1.
Bongani Mthembu, Glencoe Librarian, said the visit to the Grade 1 to Grade 3 classes was also a way of promoting library services through their mobile library services.
The learners were all winners for that day as they received prizes from Endumeni Library services.
“This was part of the Nalibali programme to promote literacy and reading at an early stage.
“We will be involved in many activities this year as library services, including visiting Nkosi Sithole area in Ward 1, to promote our services.
“We want to collaborate our outreach programmes with our sister departments within Endumeni Municipality sphere,” enthused Bongani.
