Black Monday: expect more power cuts today

More of the same to come...

Brace yourself for more power cuts today as Eskom announced that South Africans will face a full day of Stage 4 load shedding as it battles a shortage of capacity.

Stage 4 will be implemented at 9am at the first cut in the Dundee area will be from 10am to midday. According to Eskom, Stage 4 load shedding allows for up to 4000 MW to be shed from the national grid. The power utility said that load shedding – up to Stage 4 – might also be implemented on Tuesday.

Blackouts lead to frustration

President Cyril Ramaphosa, in a statement on Sunday, said that some of the electricity shortfall had been caused by storm damage (thanks to a tropical Cyclone Idai) to the Mozambican transmission line down south rom the Cahora Bassa hydroelectric generation station.
