Sewer leaks turn into swimming pools for children

Children were caught on camera, happily swimming in sewer water

Scarily, children in Steadville (Rooi area) have been seen swimming in pools created by leaking sewers and water pipes. Yesterday (Sunday, April 14), they were caught on camera swimming happily, without knowing how harmful this is to their health.

Concerned parent Makhosi Miya says that adults in the area have repeatedly reprimanded their children and warned them not to swim in this water, but to no avail. It seems to have turned into a joke for the youngsters, who simply run away laughing when an adult tries to warn them not to play in these ponds.

According to community members, sewage problems have plagued the area for a very long time now.

Ward councillor Nkosinathi Mbatha says the situation is bad, but they are working on means to resolve the issue once and for all.
