March 13 was a bitter-sweet day at Uelzen Primary when the school bade farewell to Ingrid van Staden after 38 dedicated years of service to education, 28 of which were at Uelzen Primary. In this time she was an educator in various phases of the Department and in the past year, has served as Acting Principal. A special assembly was held and attended by T Mngomezulu, the SEM of the Amajuba area, as well as Shaun de Jager, chairman of the School Governing Body.
Mrs Mngomezulu paid tribute to Mrs van Staden’s professionalism and thanked her for her commitment to education.
After various musical items, a poetry recital and performance by the school choir, Mrs van Staden was presented with gifts and a scrapbook featuring pupils’ artwork, messages and poems.
The staff and pupils wish her a well-deserved rest from the rigours of school life and thank her for her dedication to the Uelzen family and in particular, for the beautifully landscaped gardens and young trees which were planted during her tenure.
Staff, parents and pupils would also like to extend a warm welcome to Marilie Bruyns as she takes up the position of the new Principal. Mrs Bruyns is well-known in the community, not only as a long-serving educator, but also as a great hockey coach and choir mistress of note. Uelzen is looking forward to a new chapter in the life of the school with Mrs Bruyns at the helm, taking the school to new heights.
