Sewer woes out of control in Steadville

Repairs by municipal workers kept the sewer dry for only a few weeks

Horrible-smelling sewage has been building up in a resident’s front yard in Jabavu location, Steadville. Neighbours are also facing the same problem.

According to Lindokuhle Zwane, the sewage problem at his home has been ongoing for years now, to the extent that he has been forced to dig a drainage ditch to direct the raw effluent into the storm-water system.

He says that when the problem began, municipal workers carried out repairs that would keep the sewer dry for only a few weeks, only to start up all over again.

Ward councillor Nkosinathi Mbatha said he is aware of the issue and that plans are in place to deal with the problems in this section of Steadville.
