Literary characters visit Uelzen Primary School

The day was also part of the Get Caught Reading campaign, which has encouraged parents and members of the public to donate books to the school.

What do Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, Oliver Twist, Spud, Huckleberry Finn and Alex Rider have in common?

They were all seen at Uelzen Primary School this morning, along with a host of other characters from much-loved books, as the school marked Book Day. Pupils went out of their way to dress up, playing the part of their favourite characters from their favourite books.

Teachers also got into the spirit. Principal, Marlie Bruyns came dressed as Spud while Cathy Durham was the Pied Piper. There were also some Nanny McPhees, wicked witches and a Queen of Hearts spotted in the staff rooms.

The day was also part of the Get Caught Reading campaign, which has encouraged parents and members of the public to donate books to the school, to ensure children learn to appreciate the value of reading.

Uelzen staff like you have never seen them.
