Samiksha Rambalie and Taashlin Soobramoney represented KwaZulu-Natal in the South African Karate Championships this month.
Although they did not reach the medal rounds, both displayed excellent skills and technique in the art of Kata and Kumite (fighting), despite competing against black belt candidates as brown belts themselves.
Rugby against Port Shepstone
At the weekend, the Sarel first rugby team travelled to Port Shepstone to play the season’s final against Suid Natal Hoërskool. The locals excelled and the team took the title of champion by 52 points to 12.
This Saturday, the Blue Lions take on Dundee High School in an away clash. The quote from last week still rings true: “Regular seasons come and go, but our true lasting sporting memories are always associated with Derby Day.” With these words, Sarel wishes its sporting teams the best of luck for the Derby Day, bearing in mind the motto of Never Surrender.
Sport against St Dominics Newcastle
On Wednesday, St Dominics Newcastle travelled to Glencoe to take on some of the sport teams.
The junior boys hockey team drew 1 – 1. The first boys hockey team was equally fired up and walked off winners against the hockey giants. Never ceding, Sarel won by two points to one.
Sarel Cilliers’ chess team played its penultimate game of the season against St Dominics. The team excelled and beat its opponents 6 – 4. Shavir Tooray played an outstanding match, which lasted over two hours, to beat the first seeded player of the opposing team. M. Myeki also played a great match and conquered his opponent. The school would like to wish the team the best of luck for its final game against Dundee High School.
Sarel Cilliers hosts choir festival
On Tuesday, Sarel Cilliers hosted a successful choir evening. Various choirs, including Dundee High School, Sarel Cilliers High School and the NKZN Youth Choir participated. Three of Sarel’s learners are part of the Youth Choir and the school is very proud of them. Andile, a student from Sarel and a member of the choir, was also a soloist in one of the pieces performed.
