Task Team questions Newcastle Councillor in connection with political killing
It has been confirmed the Ward 28 councillor was brought in for questioning, in connection with the murders of Martin Sithole and Buthanani Shange earlier this month.
Ward Councillor, Ally Khoza was taken in for questioning by the Political Killings Task Team yesterday afternoon.
Reneilwe Serero, spokesperson for the former police minister, General Bheki Cele, confirmed the Ward 28 councillor was questioned in connection with the murders of Martin Sithole and Buthanani Shange earlier this month. Cllr Khoza could not be reached for comment at the time of publishing.
Sithole and Shange were gunned down in front of Sithole’s bottle store in Voortrekker Street, with friends and family members convinced the murder was a political attack on Sithole. Shange was said to be a casualty only because he was ‘at the wrong place at the wrong time’.

Serero confirmed yesterday that Sithole was a witness in the murder case against Newcastle Mayor, Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba. Cllr Mahlaba has denied being involved in any murders, and publicly called into the question the integrity of the Political Killings Task Team and Gen. Cele.
Gen. Cele’s response to Cllr Mahlaba’s allegations will be published in tomorrow’s edition of the Newcastle Advertiser. In the meantime, SAPS hopes its investigation will lead to arrests being made soon.
“The people who have committed this crime will pay, and they will face the full might of the law,” concluded Serero.
