Huge fire breaks out at Glencoe landfill site

Motorists are urged to proceed with caution when approaching the Glencoe/Wasbank Road.

A massive fire has broken out at the Glencoe landfill site. Clouds of billowing black smoke are currently covering Sithembile, and driving conditions on the Glencoe/Wasbank Road are hazardous.

Authorities have urged motorists to avoid travelling through the area, and if they have to, to drive with caution.

The fire is thought to have started on a neighbouring farm and spread rapidly.

It is thought rubber and other inorganic material is burning on the landfill site, with the flames being fanned by a strong pre-frontal wind. Firefighters are on scene attempting to battle the blaze.
