“Technologies are emerging and affecting our lives in ways that indicate we are at the beginning of a fourth Industrial Revolution,” said Sibongakonke Nyathi, treasurer of the Steadville Youth Development Committee.
Nyathi was talking about the successful relationship between the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT) Chemistry Department and two local high schools, Steadville and Isilindokuhle.
A team from DUT visited these two schools on Thursday and Friday, June 20 and 21.
Described as a robust learning session, the interaction blended theory with hands-on practicals on Momentum, Electric Circuits, Electrolysis, Galvanic Cells and Titration.
The learners at the two schools responded well to what they were taught, with smiles on their faces throughout the two-day exercise.
Dr Myalo Sabela from DUT said they were very pleased with the passion, determination and hunger for success demonstrated by the learners from both schools.
