New management installed at Blood River Heritage Site following mismanagement probe
Mr and Mrs Anton and Judean van Vuuren have been appointed respectively as financial manager and hospitality office
Police are probing allegations of financial mismanagement at the Blood River Heritage Site following the contract termination of a couple who previously managed the battle site.
Cecilia Kruger of the Voortrekker Monument company in Pretoria, who looks after Blood River, confirmed that steps were taken after the site (which has been running at a loss since 2016) showed an alarming decrease in income in the second half of 2018.
“We launched an investigation into the possibility of serious financial mismanagement at the site. The internal investigation confirmed suspicions and two full-time employees’ contracts were terminated. The matter is currently being investigated by the SAPS.”

Ms Kruger said the risk of only one management couple on site, who were periodically relieved, was clear and the Board of Directors of Voortrekker Monument approved the appointment of four permanent employees under the leadership of a financial manager.
Mr and Mrs Anton and Judean van Vuuren have been appointed respectively as financial manager and hospitality officer, while the young Grobler couple have been appointed in general management and logistical capacities.
