During a community meeting, Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality Mayor Jabulile Mbele said that 1000 houses would be built. This came after concerns raised during public participation meetings that the municipality held previously.
“We do not dictate to our people; we are democrats. We implement projects based on the needs of the people. The municipality feels that we must always do something to put smiles on the faces of all those who have trusted us to lead them,” said the mayor in her speech.
Tauris Gardens Contractor will be in charge of the building and a representative explained the phases of the project, adding that the company would be take on board sub-contractors who comprise community members with small businesses.
Deputy Mayor Bhekithemba Dlamini, who accompanied Mrs Mbele and councillors Ndumo and Mlaba, encouraged the residents to work harmoniously with the contractors and instead of engaging in protest action, they should instead request information from him.
“Once the homes have been built, the lives of the community will be improved because they will enjoy the benefits of a warm home,” said Mr Dlamini.
