Fire at Lion’s Den
Sarel Cillier’s principal, Kevin van Staden, would like to express his appreciation to Mr Buthelezi and his team from the Fire Department for their swift and prompt response to on Sunday night, July 7′ A fire broke out in the kiosk below Lion’s Den. Thankfully the fire was contained and extinguished quickly and damage was minimal.
Sarel’s rugby field traded for gymkhana
On Thursday, July 11, Zander Steyn (SA team member) and Zander Joubert, from Sarel Cilliers High School, teamed up with Handre Nortje and Deetlef Steyn to show the school what gymkhana is all about. Watching these riders performs the different disciplines proved that this is a sport that requires great concentration, dedication, good horsemanship and team work.
Zander Steyn performed Skills at Arms and then later worked with the other riders to perform Section Lance, Section Sword, Half Sections and Rings and Peg. Annalisa Steyn, master rider, performed ‘orange slicing’, an event that can only be performed by veteran riders.
Top 100 Math Olympiad
Over a 100 000 learners from about 1 300 schools wrote the first round South African Mathematics Olympiad.
As a record breaking in the history of Sarel Cilliers, Shravan Mangaldeen, a grade 9 learner qualifies to go through to the third round. He tops
nationally as he makes debut in top 100.
This certainly is a prestigious competition to qualify and he has every reason to be proud of his efforts and his achievement.
