A regional awards breakfast ceremony was held on July 6 to reward KwaZulu-Natal municipalities who have performed well.

The event was hosted by the Chartered Institute of Government Finance, Audit and Risk Officers (CIGFARO).  Regarding the purpose of the awards ceremony, CIGFARO KZN Regional Branch chairperson Mr Emmanuel Ngcobo said:

“As we reflect on the state of our local government at the current moment, we are all challenged to question ourselves as to what has truly gone wrong.  Such discovery will lead us to change the way we think and do things to ensure improvement in the delivery of services for our country’s citizens.”

The Auditor General Award for a Clean Audit (financially unqualified audit with no findings) went to Okhahlamba Local Municipality.

One of the additional special Department of Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs (Cogta) awards for Best Performing Municipalities in terms of the Back2Basic project went to Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality.
