Sarel Cilliers High School’s Headmaster, Kevin van Staden thanked The Courier Guy for its recent sponsorship.
This has made Sarel’s cricket and tennis teams look like professionals in their new kit. In the present economic climate and especially in small towns, it is difficult to find companies who can still give back to the community.
“We hope it is the beginning of a long relationship between The Courier Guy and Sarel Cilliers,” said sports master, Dave van der Westhuizen.
Science Expo: On July 26, a group of learners participated in the Eskom Science Expo for young scientists. They received the following awards: Bronze – Taashlin Soobramoney (Grade 8) for his project ‘Biogas from Garbage’; Phiwayinkosi Masalala and Zanele Zwane (both Grade 10) for their project ‘Eco-friendly City’. Silver – Andile Nkosi (Grade 11) for his steam generator. Gold – Kameshnee Naicker and Marian Khan (both Grade 11) for their sand motor generator. The award for the Best Project in the Engineering Category went to Kameshbee Naicker and Marian Khan.
‘Ubuntu Girl’ visits Sarel: Ubuntu Girl, Sonja Kruse, who quit her job in 2009 to travel South Africa with only a backpack, R100, her phone and a camera, to prove Ubuntu is very much alive, visited Sarel Cilliers to chat to the girls about the amazing women (and men) she met on her journey.
“It was an inspiring story that instilled hope in our girls that kindness does still exist.”
