Last Friday, the Dundee High School first team cricket boys accompanied coaches, Mr Botha and Mr Halforty to the annual cricket festival in Pongola. This was set to be a cricket-filled weekend.
The team’s 1st game had it matched up against Sarel Cilliers High School and having beaten the fellow locals by 50 runs during the week, Sarel Cilliers was out for revenge. This translated to a win by the Sarel Cilliers team.
With the format being a little different to what the boys are meant to, they had to adapt quickly ahead of 2 matches scheduled for the Saturday, the first of which was against Vryheid High School. Unfortunately, the DHS boys had to accept another loss.
The second game against VHS’ 2nd team was a different affair however, with the DHS boys beating them comfortably and building momentum to a final game of the tour against Ferrum High School on the Sunday.
The boys were very keen to end the tour on a high note, and after a good game of cricket, the DHS boys pulled off a fantastic win and are congratulated on a great tour and for always showing a never-say-die attitude.
They learned a lot and look forward to the rest of the season. DHS’ next scheduled game will be on Saturday at home against Ferrum – best of luck to them!
