KZN Municipalities to implement ‘new CoGTA’ strategies
The measures are there to assist with service delivery, according to the Department [CoGTA].
New support plans have been issued to all 54 municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA).
Addressing the Endumeni Council CoGTA representatives, said the new support plan replaces the Back to Basics programme which was previously implemented. The new plan aims to ensure all municipalities in KZN are assessed and service delivery issues are addressed.
The plan, drawn up by the new KZN MEC for CoGTA, Sipho Hlomuka is contained in a bulky document which Councillors said they had not yet read.
Cllr Anthon Raubenheimer and Cllr Callie Carelse said they could adopt the plan in principle, but needed to first peruse the document. Cllr Thulani Mahaye agreed, adding it is important that service providers are paid on time.
The CoGTA representatives appeared to agree. They said the new CoGTA MEC had brought in new leadership and there was hope that all the issues raised by the Councillors would be addressed.
