New commander takes the helm at Ladysmith K9 Unit

Capt Maree is a trained tracker, with vast experience in the field of shoe and tyre prints

Captain Chris Maree is the new commander at the Ladysmith K9 Unit.

Capt Maree has 29 years of experience in the South African Police Service (SAPS).

He completed his basic training at the Pretoria Police Academy and has served in the Pietermaritzburg as well as Newcastle Public Order Policing (POP) units.

He also served at Greytown SAPS and the Ladysmith Stock Theft Unit.

His passion, however, is the K9 Unit, where he has been for the last 22 years.

Capt Maree is a trained tracker, with vast experience in the field of shoe and tyre prints.

The new K9 commander was recently congratulated by Acting Cluster Commander Brigadier F Bantham.
