Residents angry about streetlights not working in Ladysmith

Residents feel unsafe in their own homes and at the mercy of criminals who prowl the streets

More and more streetlights seem to be inoperational in many areas of Ladysmith, leaving residents in darkness when night falls.

Residents in Daffodil Crescent have been “in the dark”, so to speak, for nearly three weeks now due to two streetlights not working.

The residents have contacted the municipality on a daily basis, with nobody coming out to fix the lights. The residents feel that the rates money they are paying is just going to waste, as service delivery is next to none.

People are saying that they feel unsafe in their own homes and could easily fall victim to criminals at night.

To make matters worse, in certain streets, streetlights burn brightly the entire day.

Councillor Abbas Warasally regularly reports streetlights that are not working to the municipality, yet he says they still take days to come out and fix the problem.
