Glencoe has been without water for almost two days, following a lightning strike at the Tayside Pump Station.

Nomonde Nzimakwe, spokesperson for Umzinyathi District Municipality, confirmed a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) on the high-lift pump was damaged by lightning. This compromised the pump station’s ability to feed the Biggarsberg Water Treatment Works.

“uThukela Water, who [is] responsible for the bulk supply of water to Endumeni, has procured a replacement unit but it will take a couple of days for the unit to arrive here,” said Ms Nzimakwe.

The Courier has been inundated with calls this morning, mainly from Glencoe residents who complained of having no water.

Ms Nzimakwe commented the district municipality had officially handed over three new water tankers to Endumeni Municipality recently, for deployment to areas where this was no water.
