AbaQulusi Local Municipality’s woes seem never-ending, with officials now being questioned about alleged payment of salaries to both the suspended and acting Municipal Managers.  EFF Councillor, Thulani Ndlovu told the Herald it did not make sense that the municipality was paying double salaries while its finances were not in order. “What is the purpose of having an Administrator, when we are still doing things that continue to affect the municipality’s finances? Isn’t the administrator supposed to curb reckless spending within the municipality and find ways to save and bring in more money? The suspended Municipal Manager and the acting MM are currently receiving their salaries and at the same scale – isn’t that fruitless expenditure?” asked Cllr Ndlovu. Bonga Ntanzi was suspended on corruption allegations, after former Mayor, Jerry Sibiya claimed Ntanzi had failed to act on certain matters including management’s signing off on so-called illegal overtime. This was said to have cost Council more than R4,2-million per month instead of the maximum of R600 000.
