Glass pane in Ladysmith Town Hall front door stays shattered for months

Local resident Mr van Eck says this is an eyesore, as the Town Hall is an architectural treasure

Ladysmith resident Mr Andries van Eck brought it to the attention of the Ladysmith Gazette that a pane of glass in the main entrance door to the Town Hall has been broken for over a year now. Speaking to Mr van Eck, he says this is a real eyesore, as the Town Hall is an architectural treasure that was built in 1893.

The question is: Does the municipality not have money to carry out repairs, considering that many tourists and political leaders come to town and have to see the Town Hall in this state?

The Town Hall holds a key position in the town’s history, so Mr van Eck feels this is not something that can just be ignored and taken lightly.

Councillor Abbas Warasally also commented on the matter, saying it is most disappointing, as the Town Hall brings in so much revenue for the municipality. He adds that it’s also a health hazard when functions are held there, as someone could cut themselves badly on the broken glass.
