Ladysmith lady celebrates her 90th birthday
Senta's charisma, charm and incredible wit leaves young and old in awe of her compassion, humility and vivid memory
Renate ‘Senta’ Dunham has lived through decades of memories, all of which make for amazing stories to tell everyone who knows this friendly woman.
Senta was blessed and excited to celebrate her 90th birthday on January 21. Her charisma, charm and incredible wit leaves young and old in awe of her compassion, humility and vivid memory.
Senta was born in Germany on January 21, 1930, and moved to South Africa when she was 20 years old with her parents. Her plan was to train as a nurse.
She succeeded in this dream and went on to be a matron / senior nurse at different hospitals.
She married Louie Le Grange on December 17, 1954, a union that resulted in two beautiful girls. Her husband passed away in 1980, and it was extremely painful for the whole family to lose a husband and dad.

Years later, she found love again and remarried to Cyril Dunham. After her second husband passed away in 2000, she moved to Ladysmith. Here, she met many friends whom she treated as family.
She currently resides at Juana Maria Old Age Home.
Mrs Dunham has been blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On her birthday, family and friends at the old age home had a small tea party for her. There, they had an opportunity to talk about Renate and share special memories with her in their speeches. Songs were sung especially for the “birthday lady” who has touched so many hearts over the years.
“I thank the Lord for giving me strength to see another day and thank the old age home for making my birthday memorable,” said Mrs Dunham. She is truly a remarkable woman and is wished good health, lots of love and happiness in the coming years.
