In the quest to minimise the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19), the Department of Health embarked on a mass screening campaign for essential officials who are on the frontline and meeting with members of the public.

The screening was conducted in three different areas around the Estcourt central business district (CBD), targeting police, officials from Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality, informal traders at the taxi rank, commuters and Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) officials.

Estcourt Mayor Jabulile Mbele joined the team that was conducting the screening at the taxi rank on April 21, where commuters and vendors were screened and then educated about the symptoms of Covid-19.

Members of the public were also advised to take precautionary measures to avoid contracting this deadly virus. Much emphasis was placed on the lockdown protocol that should be respected and adhered to. The screening process aims to assist the Department of Health to be able to trace and keep track of infected / affected Covid-19 cases, even in rural communities.
