The fight against the Covid-19 pandemic continues as the uThukela District Command Council (DCC), led by Deputy Mayor NW Mchunu and Dr T Zulu, once again joined the Okhahlamba Local Command Council (LCC) screening for Covid-19 programme held in Potshini, Ward 12, last Tuesday.

Councillor S Msibi from Alfred Duma Local Municipality, community healthcare workers, the Health Systems Trust, field workers and volunteers were some of the stakeholders present.

After a short briefing, teams were formed and headed in different directions to continue the day’s work. Field workers visited homes to screen communities for Covid-19 symptoms such as fever and shortness of breath, to mention but a few.

Deputy Mayor Mchunu passed her gratitude to all the field workers, praising the work done and their commitment to mass screening.

She emphasised the importance of social distancing, as it is easy for the virus to pass from one person to another through small droplets of saliva or mucus. She then advised residents not to touch their nose and mouth, as the virus can be transmitted on contact. One of the challenges the teams came across was that some members of the community are unemployed and not receiving any social grant from the government.
