Covid-19: Graduate shares disappointment at losing out on graduation ceremony
Thembalihle Hlongwane finished his diploma in Public Relations and Communication Management at the end of last year

Ladysmith resident and Durban University of Technology (DUT) student Thembalihle Hlongwane (26) is disappointed at not being able to attend his graduation ceremony due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
The 26-year-old from the Roosboom area finished his diploma at the end of last year.
“I completed my diploma in Public Relations and Communication Management in 2019. We were supposed to have our traditional graduation ceremony on May 8 this year, but all graduation ceremonies were cancelled due to Covid-19,” laments Thembalihle.

He continues that, “I was shattered because, for me, the graduation was dedicated to my mother who has been with me through thick and thin. I wanted her to see me donned in my graduation gown, going up on stage to receive my certificate. I wanted her to cry tears of joy, but I feel like that opportunity was taken away from me.”
