Concern over PPE dumping

The Courier was tipped off by a concerned resident

Heaps of face masks and other disposed of personal protective equipment was found dumped next to the Glencoe landfill site over the weekend.
The Courier was tipped off that the masks and other PPE, related to warding off the Covid-19 virus, had been discarded.

Members of the public, who called the Courier, expressed fears that ‘waste pickers’ who scrounge around on the landfill site to gather recyclables could easily become infected should they touch the masks.

The Courier immediately called Phumlani Ngobese of the Endumeni Municipality’s Disaster Management Department, who on Saturday morning alerted his team who went to the site to deal with the illegal dumping.
