Housing relief for three families affected by fire and storms

The delegation included local municipal officials and members from the provincial Department of Human Settlements.

The Newcastle Municipality has stepped in to help three local families, whose homes were recently destroyed due to ‘inclement and hostile’ weather conditions.

Mayor, Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba led a delegation to assess land in Madadeni, earmarked for a permanent home for the Nkabinde, Ximba and Methule families, who lost everything due to a fire and bad weather conditions.

During the assessment visit, the families were given food and warm blankets for the winter season.

Deputy Mayor, Reuben Molelekoa hands over the keys to a temporary shelter to one of the family members.

In the interim, the families were handed makeshift housing until the program of building their houses commences next week.
