Mail delayed under lockdown level 3
Customers have been advised to expect delays in mail processing at the South African Post Office.
The South African Post Office has advised customers to prepare for delays due to mail processing not being ‘optimal’.
Spokesperson for the SA Post Office in KwaZulu-Natal, Nobuhle Njapha, said mail processing is not taking place at normal rates under lockdown 3 regulations, which has resulted in delays.
“These delays are particularly noticeable for international items,” said Njapha.
“Owing to regulations governing social distancing on the sorting floor and only being able to have a third of the workforce present at the same time at several of the Post Office’s mail processing facilities, crewing is not optimal and processing takes longer than usual,” said Njapha.
Njapha added that transport to and from other countries is irregular. “With no regular scheduled flights, this has a knock-on effect on mail leaving the country,” she confirmed.
Even though delays will be inevitable, Njapha assured customers their items were not lost and would still be delivered.
“The Post Office apologises for the inconvenience experienced by its customers and would like to thank them for their patience and understanding during these difficult times,” she concluded.
