Calf abandoned and left for dead near Klip River, Ladysmith
The young animal was lying in the grass, looking gravely ill

A calf was left for dead near the bypass on the banks of the Klip River and although the animal was spotted by a helpful resident, the story unfortunately did not have a happy ending.
Ladysmith resident Mr Andries van Eck noticed the animal about a month ago.
Mr van Eck regularly takes his dogs for a walk near the bypass and saw the calf opposite the water works, looking very sick. He immediately tried contacting the animal’s owners, and says he even left messages for the owners.
The following day, the calf was still there. It broke Mr van Eck’s heart to see it stumbling around, as it could hardly even walk.

The day after that, the young animal was seen lying in the grass and was definitely gravely ill.
Mr van Eck again informed the owners, but in vain. A day later, he found the calf dead on the banks of the river.
The next time Mr van Eck went out walking his dogs, the carcass was floating in the river. “This was a very sad sight for me to see.”
