[CRIME]: One arrested for the illegal sale of tobacco products

Intelligence members recovered 44 packets of cigarettes during the raid.

An intelligence driven operation was  conducted by Newcastle police on July 9, with the assistance of Osizweni Crime Prevention members.

The team worked on information given regarding drug and other cases within the Osizweni Policing area.

“The members raided a spaza shop at Section A of Osizweni and recovered 44 packets of cigarettes known as RG and Fumar Prejudica and 12 snuff tobacco products,” confirmed Lizzy Arumugam of Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications.

“One male suspect (24) was arrested for contravening the Disaster Management act of 2020.”

The suspect has appeared at the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court.
