Couple shot and hijacked in Wembezi

Wembezi police are investigating two cases of attempted murder and car hijacking

What started as a quiet evening alone in a bakkie turned into an almost fatal time for a couple in Wembezi.

A 49-year-old male and 29-year-old female were sitting inside a Corsa bakkie in Nkwezela last night (August 14) when at about 7pm, they were attacked.

A police report states that the couple was attacked by three unknown suspects that were armed with a firearm.

“The suspects pulled them out of the bakkie and shot them both. The male was shot twice – on the stomach and chest and the female was shot once on the thigh. The unknown suspects drove off with the bakkie, leaving the two lovers behind,” commented police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi.

The couple was rushed to Estcourt Hospital for treatment where they were subsequently admitted.

“Wembezi police are investigating two cases of attempted murder and car hijacking. Police are requesting anyone who has information that will assist them in their investigation to contact them at 08600 10111 or use the ‘MySAPS’ App to provide information,” added Captain Nyathi.
