Police seize firearm and ammunition in Weenen

A .303 rifle, 31 live rounds of ammunition and one .303 magazine were found

Acting on a tip-off, police were successful in making an arrest and recovering an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
During the early hours of Monday morning (August 17), officers swooped on a residence in Lindelani, Weenen.

A search of the house proved that the information received was correct.

“A .303 rifle, 31 live rounds of ammunition and one .303 magazine were found. Police arrested a 49-year-old suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” commented police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi.

The man has appeared in the Colenso Magistrate’s Court.

The Acting Uthukela District Commander, Brigadier Francis Bantham, has commended the officers on the arrest and recovery.

“I am very happy and excited to see our officers doing such good work. I appreciate all those who were involved in this operation; they have made us proud,” she said.
