ESTCCOURT: Service delivery protest flares up in Cornfields

“The Speaker promised to come back to them after 21 days but there has been no follow-up”

Frustrated after waiting for a response from the Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality regarding housing in the Cornfields area, some of the residents took to the streets this morning (November 3) in protest.

The R103 near Colenso has been closed due to the protest action.

According to Councillor Nyanda Mchunu, the residents were promised a follow-up regarding a housing project that was started in 2013.

On September 29, the residents closed off the road, demanding answers and action.

“The Speaker promised to come back to them after 21 days but there has been no follow-up,” said Cllr Mchunu.
This prompted fresh protest action this morning.

Be cautious when approaching this area.
