VRYHEID KZN: Council approves funds for landfill site and appointment of CFO
Furthermore, the municipality was saddened by the untimely passing of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Mr HA Mohammed

At the recent Special Council Sitting held ‘virtually’, Community Services recommended that Council approve the prioritising of funds for the full operational use of the landfill site within the 2020/2021 financial year. The landfill site is currently handling about 2500 to 3500 tons of waste per month. The site has been completed, with an office building and storerooms, ablution facilities, weight bridge, weight bridge building, security entrance building, motorised gate, 8500sqm storm-water pond, 1500sqm leachate control pond, associated storm-water drains, as well as electrical and water connections. A service provider will soon be appointed for the full operation of the landfill site. The site will be monitored at 7.30am and again at 4pm every working day. On weekends and public holidays, it will be monitored at 7.30am and again at 1pm. This will include giving the service provider on-site instructions to level, cover and compact waste daily, and provide the Environmental Manager with written daily and monthly reports dealing with both compliance and performance. A record of major incidents, as well as corrective and preventative actions taken, will be maintained. Additionally, we will conduct regular audits to ensure that the system for implementation of the Environmental Specification is operating effectively. Furthermore, the municipality was saddened by the untimely passing of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Mr HA Mohammed. We send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. It was against this background that Council was requested to note Mr Mohammed’s passing and to declare the vacancy and advertise the position with immediate effect, and for Council to approve the selection panel for the CFO. Mr Mohammed was first appointed at the municipality in 2014 and his contract lapsed. He was then re-appointed as CFO in January 2018 until the time of his passing in January 2021. This post is budgeted for and currently, Ms T Mhlongo (recommended by KZN Cogta) is acting in the position. ALSO READ:
