DUNDEE KZN: Murder accused’s trial set for June

The accused has pleaded not guilty

The trial of murder accused, Kenneth Edwin ‘Jimmy’ Mulhatton, has been set down for June 21-22 in the Dundee Regional Court. Mulhatton (30) appeared in the Regional Court on Friday.

He pleaded ‘not guilty’ of the murder of Ronnie Calitz on September 16, 2020. The murder victim’s burnt body was found in his Beaconsfield Street house that had been gutted in a fire. His legal aid lawyer, Melo Shabangu, indicated that Mulhatton will be applying for bail, which Magistrate Ferreira agreed upon.

A date for the bail application will be set. Mulhatton also told the court that he wanted an Afrikaans interpreter at the trial. He is currently being detained at Ladysmith Correctional Services.
