Newcastle KZN: Eight suspects caught and arrested for possession of looted goods

A joint operation involving Newcastle Crime and Intelligence, Newcastle K9 Unit, Newcastle Crime Prevention,

Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team, and Amajuba Task Team resulted in the successful arrests of eight suspects for being in possession of looted goods this past weekend.

According to reports, information about stolen products and hardware stock that had been looted from local stores was received.

Newcastle Crime and Intelligence identified the house and launched an immediate operation in the KwaMathukuza area.

“The value of the stolen goods recovered is estimated to be around R200 000, and one suspect has been arrested and detained at Newcastle police station.”

The SANDF allegedly joined the forces the next day, and a second operation in the same area was launched.

This time, a few more houses were identified, and numerous looted items were recovered, as well as seven more suspects arrested.

Lizzy Arrumugam of the Newcastle SAPS Communications Department was contacted for additional information on the incident.

However, she declined to answer, stating that they were not currently authorized to answer any questions pertaining to the looting.
