Ladysmith KZN: Seniors ‘clean up’ to play their part for Mandela Day
"We were simply heeding the late Nelson Mandela's call to make the world a better place''

A group of residents calling themselves ‘AKA Pineville Poppies’ decided to pick up litter in Cochrane Road on Mandela Day (July 18) for 67 minutes.
Mr Christo Pieterse, who lives in the area, arrived at the designated clean-up spot before all the others and wasted no time in getting to work.
The group then moved down into Francis Road and cleaned the street in front of Juana Maria Old Age Home. The happy team said they were successful and completed their task within 67 minutes.

“We were simply heeding the late Nelson Mandela’s call to make the world a better place,” said the ladies in the group. The ‘clean-up crew’ consisted of elderly members of the community who enjoy serving selflessly on a daily basis in various ways.
