ESTCOURT KZN: Mayor’s message for Women’s Day 2021

As the women of Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality strive for the betterment of our town by taking a lead wherever possible

Women’s Day is celebrated on August 9. This is to commemorate a march that was organised and undertaken in 1956 by a cross-section of South African women.

They objected to black people having to carry ‘passes’ in order to move around the country, anywhere outside of their homes.

They did all this without any social media platforms, no budget or an event planner; a handful of determined women simply mobilised 20,000 people to march to the Union Buildings and present a petition which held more than 100,000 signatures as support for their cause.

As the women of Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality strive for the betterment of our town by taking a lead wherever possible to fight for peace and stability, together we say NO to LOOTING AND VANDALISM in our town, province and South Africa as a whole.

We encourage all women in all spheres of life to use the opportunity given to all of us to vaccinate and collectively fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

We also encourage our young businesswomen between the ages 18 and 35 to use the opportunities that have been made available to apply for funding that is aimed at supporting businesses that have been impacted through looting or demolished business structures.

The aim of the government is to provide assistance in rebuilding the economy.

‘Wathint’ abafazi wathint’ imbokodo – phambili ngabafazi phambili’.
